Museum of Material Memory
Founded in 2017 by myself and Aanchal Malhotra (Our same last name is a happy coincidence), The Museum of Material Memory is a digital archive showcasing the material culture of the Indian subcontinent.
It celebrates family histories and social stories through everyday heirlooms and antiques. The platform transcends geographical limits to share our collective heritage through objects that might seem ordinary but hold significant stories. Objects like a kitchen utensil, a trinket box, a notebook, or an old photograph of a distant ancestor. As a digital and crowd-sourced museum, we aim to make these stories accessible to all, using material culture as a means to narrate our intertwined histories.
“You can understand your history better by writing and talking about it. Our project encourages people to be empowered by their own histories.”
